Moving to Hawaii with military husband and have pet rabbits?
Sweet Sally asked:
I feel so awful! We are moving to Hawaii and I know we will have to live in a condo at first. So making the space will be so hard, but either way. Can I take my 2 rabbits over? I heard dogs have quarantine- is bunnies allowable?

Below is the link to the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s quarantine section. I know that for dogs and cats there’s a quarantine period that can be shortened through preparing on your end before you arrive in Hawaii. I don’t know if the same applies to rabbits.
The other concern will be your housing situation. Not all landlords here are pet-friendly, even to rabbits. And not all apartment buildings, if you’re buying, are pet-friendly either.

Here is a partial list of pet friendly housing. These are about 80% accurate. You have to check with each building and manager. They even list rabbits:

Your rabbit has to have a certificate of veterinary inspection, and i believe it has to be less than a week old. They just want to make sure your rabbit isn’t bringing any weird viruses with it. I think as long as you have this you shouldn’t have to go through a quarantine period. and also rabbits are allowed in to military housing so you should be fine there also. You shouldn’t have to wait long for housing, as long as you take first available. When we were their we had housing in about 2 weeks, but if we were picky about it they told us it could be anywhere from 5-6 months. We stayed at Arizona Hall on Pearl Harbor because it was cheaper, but there is also the Navy lodge. I would contact them in advance and ask them about their pet policies, because when you get to hawaii the wait might not be as long as you suspected so maybe staying in a hotel on, or off base would be better.
If you have any question i would contact them directly ( Hawaii Department of Agriculture) so you know you wont run into any problems.
