You'll have more privacy than you would at a B&B where sometimes the bathroom has to be shared and meals are taken together. Ugh. Not my idea of a fun vacation, but maybe that's just me. The Hawaiian King condos are right in Waikiki and a very short walk to the International Marketplace, beach, nightlife, shopping, dining, etc. Each unit is independently owned so the decor varies, but I've stayed in 2 different units and really liked the place. Its still on the island of Oahu about 55 minutes from Waikiki but you could rent a car and see the sights on your own time. You could go to the hustle and bustle of the international marketplace and spend time at a nice secluded and private beach to take away the stress of shopping! There are a ton of condo type places though. Bring along some coffee or tea, some sugar if you use it, go to the supermarket, and get some basics, then you can eat when you want, what you want without having to wait for the time differnece you will be experiencing. Also in a condo you can freely enjoy your room, and not be disturbed with the extra service the B&B tries to give you especially when you are jet lagged.
