How much would it cost to go to Hawaii (Waipouli)?

~Paynt~ asked:

I had a friend of mine invite me and my mom to Waipouli, Hawaii but we are wondering how much money you we need to bring? My friends mother would pay for our condo but we would need to pay to our flights and our food. We would fly out there for 10 or more days in the begining of June, and would be staying in the Waipouli Condominium Beach Front Resort

Please if you have been there how much would it cost for food, shopping, and flight?

Well, depending on where you’re flying out of (seriously people, you need to include where you’re coming from if you’re asking for pricing on airlines…), it could cost anywhere from $300-$500 per person roundtrip. I suggest looking at Hawaiian Airlines (www.hawaiianair.com) for some good deals on flights off the west coast, and just in case you didn’t know, you’ll be flying into LIH, or Lihue Airport on Kauai.

Luckily the place you’ll be staying at is right across from Safeway and Foodland, two grocery stores. Pricewise, they’re about the same, but I personally like Foodland better. Groceries should cost you about $50-100 for a week, depending on how much you need and what you buy, but the basics (bread, milk, lunch meat, juice, a few fruits) should run about $50. I suggest going to Foodland because while both stores have their discount card, only Foodland will give you a discount on the spot if you don’t have one. If you’ll be going to local restaraunts, dinner can run about $7.50-12 a plate, so about $50 for the four of you. IF you’re gonna go to the hotel retaraunts or nicer places made mostly for tourists, expect to pay $15-25 and up for a plate, but at least it will be good food. The difference between the two places are, the first are where mostly locals go when they want to eat out, so they have local foods, places like L&L, Kim Chee #9, Hamura Saimin, BBQ Inn, and all those little holes in the wall. The nicer places have fancier food, grilled fish, steaks, saute’ed this and that, so it’ll be more expensive, but all together about the same as on the mainland, just better food.

Souvenir shopping is expensive for here, but I see people walking around with tons of bags, so I’m not sure how the prices stack up next to mainland prices. The place you;ll be staying is a little less than a mile away from Coconut Marketplace, a shopping center great for souvenir shopping. You’re lucky, the place you’re staying is pretty central, so you can walk to the grocery store, Coconut marketplace, even Kapaa town, though that’s a little further away, about a mile and a half, maybe a 15-20 min. walk.

Hope that was helpful, if you have anymore questions, you can email me.
