World Taekwondo Federation Tae kwon do is a full contact sport where you are allowed to kick to the head (punching to the head is not allowed though), it is not very dangerous to practice Tae kwon do. In a Taekwondo bout, full protection is used to protect the competitors. To reduce any chance of a head injury, a competitor is not allowed to engage in a competition for the next three months if he or she was knockedunconciousst by a kick to the head. If if this where to happen again after these three months, you’re not allowed to take part for six months. Another K.O. to the head after this six month period results in a final exclusion of competitions.

International Taekwondo Federation Tae kwon do is only semi-contact. It is not allowed to attack the head with full force. Although, it is allowed to throw punches to the head, using the so-called “killing-blow”, stop just an inch before the target. To reduce injuries, ITF use gloves at sparring-competition.

Tae kwon do is known for its sensational flying and spinning kicks. The player should learn the fundamentals of taekwondo through choreographed sequences of combative moves , the breaking of boards or other materials, and free sparring. They will also receive instruction in principles such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, and self-control.
